El pastor Joel Osteen, es noticia una vez más, esta vez dice que “el mormonismo es simplemente otra forma de cristianismo”. Osteen, pastor de la “iglesia más grande de América”, como los medios de comunicación repiten una y otra vez, habló para el Washington Times en una entrevista que cubre una variedad de temas.

En declaraciones a la prensa Osteen dijo: “Veo la fe en los Estados Unidos en su punto más alto de todos los tiempos”.

Sus comentarios se produjeron tras una investigación detallada sobre una importante pérdida de vitalidad en las congregaciones cristianas de Estados Unidos.

La pérdida de vitalidad se refiere a la convicción teológica y bíblica. En la entrevista, Joel Osteen dijo que “parte de nuestro mensaje central es que las estaciones cambian, y cuando usted cree que sí no se amarga, y no se desanima, usted no puede cambiar durante la noche, pero usted puede conseguir la paz”.

También le dijo al periódico: “La gente necesita que le recuerden que cada día es un regalo de Dios, que florece y debe ser feliz donde está, para tomar esa decisión de levantarse todos los días y estar agradecido”.

He oído a Mitt Romney (El ex gobernador de Massachusetts Mitt Romney) – y yo nunca lo he conocido -, pero le he oído decir: “Yo creo que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios”, “Yo creo que es mi salvador, y ese es uno de los temas centrales”, resaltó Osteen.

“Estoy seguro que hay otras personas que no estén de acuerdo. Pero ya sabes, puedo decir que los bautistas y los metodistas y los católicos no están de acuerdo en todo. Así que eso sería mi opinión al respecto”.

“Osteen, sólo expresó su convicción de que los mormones son cristianos, el principal punto de preocupación en el último comentario de Joel, y es la falta de una norma bíblica de juicio y de la renuncia total de la responsabilidad teológica”, Albert Mohler, presidente de Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Joel, recordó al personal del periódico que él nunca ha asistido al seminario. “Esto es cierto, por supuesto, pero hay miles de predicadores que nunca tuvieron la oportunidad de asistir al seminario pero tienen un conocimiento suficiente y compromiso con la verdad bíblica que impide tal descuido”, dijo Mohler.

Una iglesia evangélica de California está siendo criticado por algunos cristianos en su próxima conferencia con «meditaciones guiadas» por una sacerdotisa de la diosa pagana Isis de la fertilidad.

La quinta edición anual de «Conferencia de Fe y feminismo» que tiene lugar 11 al 13 noviembre ha sido organizado por Ebenezer Lutheran Church en San Francisco, que se anuncia como «herchurch».

Entre los participantes previsto esta Loreon Vigne, sacerdotisa del  templo Oasis de Isis, centro de retiro y ‘animal sanctuary’ . Vigne, fundó en 1978 en Geyserville, California

«Personalmente veo a Isis como la madre naturaleza», dijo a WND Vigne «, y que lo abarca todo con sus alas. Ella es una diosa alada. Que abarca a cualquier otra diosa de cualquier cultura. »

Vigne, que planea llevar a  otras sacerdotisas más a la conferencia, llevará a cabo oraciones, cantos y meditación.

El programa contó con la actriz Joanna Cameron interpretando a una profesora de ciencias que, después de desenterrar un antiguo amuleto arquelógico, se transforma en una super-dotada para hacer el bien al pronunciar el conjuro: «¡Oh poderosa Isis».

Otra frase en el programa fue: «¡Oh viento céfiro que sopla en las alturas. Sácame ahora para que pueda volar. »

Vigne dice hoy que hay «muchos miles» de seguidores de Isis en todo el mundo.

«Lo importante es que está creciendo enormemente. Este es un resurgimiento del interés «, dijo.

«Creo que la gente esta molesta con las iglesias normales, del tipo establecido de una religión organizada. Yo Llamo  a lo mío “Iglesia desorganizada”, con humor. Yo digo que tengo catma y no dogma. »

Doscientos setenta casos de intolerancia religiosa ocurrieron en el país, entre 2006 y 2011, mientras el gobierno de Felipe Calderón ha tenido una participación mínima en juzgar a sus autores y oculta este tipo de discriminación, cuando hay más de 2 mil personas expulsadas de sus propiedades en este período, expresó este jueves un artículo del diario La Jornada.

De acuerdo a una denuncia hecha por la agrupación  A Favor de la Libertad Religiosa, que preside el líder evangélico Óscar Moha, el actual gobierno es responsable de los atropellos, asesinatos, violaciones a mujeres, expulsión de niños de escuelas públicas, despojo de tierras, quema de templos e, incluso, la negativa a que un evangélico fuera sepultado en un panteón, expresó que resulta imprescindible que tanto el Congreso como la Comisión de Derechos Humanos establezcan instancias que atiendan a estas denuncias, ante la vulnerabilidad que vive el pueblo, cuando la Oficina de Asuntos Religiosos de la Secretaría de Gobernación resta importancia a los hechos, dando paso así a la impunidad.

Un encuentro celebrado por la entidad A Favor de la Libertad Religiosa, dejó al descubierto 16 actos de intolerancia religiosa, ocurridos este año, en Estados como Guanajuato, Querétaro, Puebla, Jalisco, Chiapas y el Distrito Federal, entre otros.\

Sobre el asunto, la diputada Rosario Brindis Álvarez, en una entrevista concedida a ese mismo diario, señaló que ya se promueve, a nivel de la Cámara de Diputados, una comisión especial de asuntos religiosos que afronte el problema, aunque descartó que en esta legislatura pueda tomar cuerpo legal dicha organismo, porque dijo que a pesar de que hay interés en la cuestión por parte de todos los partidos, la agenda prioriza la discusión de temas como la reforma política y el presupuesto para el 2012.

También expresó que se ha recurrido a la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CIDH), ante la pasividad del actual Gobierno, cuando algunos ciudadanos solicitan asilo en los Estados Unidos, alegando como motivo la persecución religiosa que sufren.

En el pueblo de Frutillar, adonde llegaron los colonos alemanes en 1863, a las orillas del lago Llanquihue, se realizó los días 13 y 14 octubre la Conferencia de Pastores conjunta, entre pastores de la Iglesia Luterana (ILCH) y la Iglesia Evangélica Luterana (IELCH). El tema tratado fue la división de la iglesia en el años 1975. Para esta oportunidad se invitó al estudiante de Teología, de la iglesia Evangélica Alemana (EKD en alemán), Daniel Lenski, que trabajó en su tesis de grado sobre la división de la Iglesia Luterana. en Chile.

Lenski comenzó desarrollando la historia de la iglesia y como se van desplegando los diferentes actores en la vida de la iglesia. Desde una iglesia alemana a una iglesia luterana y el cambio del idioma alemán al español. Analiza, la tesis, la iglesia en el tiempo del gobierno de Salvador Allende y el Sínodo 1970, en la ciudad de Valdivia en que se elige como obispo a Helmut Frenz. El nuevo obispo crea la diaconía y asume la presidencia de la CONAR. Viene el golpe militar y crea el Comité pro paz y asume una de la presidencia. Una parte de la iglesia no está de acuerdo con su postura y es cuestionado en los sínodos de Vitacura y  Frutillar. En este último Sínodo se produce el cisma de la iglesia.

Después de la exposición se entró en una dinámica de  conversaciones entre los pastores, la gran mayoría no vivieron el proceso de la división, se informaron y mostraron muy entusiasmado de cómo se está llevando el proceso de la unificación.

Por otro lado, el Consejo de Iglesias Luteranas en Chile (CILCH) tiene una agenda de la unificación. Se baraja la idea de que cada iglesia siga con su sínodo, similar como es en Alemania o Estados Unidos pero formar un ente como una “Federación” o “Consejo” de iglesias luteranas que estará integrada por miembros de las dos iglesias en cantidades iguales.Esta figura fomentará el trabajo de misión de la iglesia, la formación de pastores y agentes pastorales, y el trabajo diaconico,etc.

En estos momentos se han realizando algunos pasos de acercamientos, como la conferencia de pastores en conjuntos, Sínodo y convenciones donde son invitados miembros de ambas iglesias, encuentro de jóvenes y mujeres en conjunto.
Se fijó para que en el año 2014 sea realidad la unificación con la celebración del gran culto de la unidad.

High priestess Loreon Vigne of Isis Oasis

A Protestant church in California is coming under fire from some Christians over its upcoming conference featuring «guided meditations» by a high priestess of thepagan fertility goddess Isis.

The fifth annual«Faith and Feminism Conference»taking place Nov. 11–13 is being hosted by theEbenezer Lutheran Churchin San Francisco, which bills itself as «herchurch.»

Among the scheduled participants is Loreon Vigne, high priestess ofIsis Oasis– a temple, retreat andanimalsanctuaryVigne founded in 1978 in Geyserville, Calif.

«I personally see Isis as Mother Nature,» Vigne told WND, «and that she encompasses everything with her wings. She’s a winged goddess. She encompasses any other goddess from any culture.»

Vigne, who plans to bring several other priestesses to the conference, will conduct prayers, songs and meditation.

«Guidedmeditationis where the audience closes their eyes and you take them on a little journey,» she explained. «I’ve taken people to their past lives in Egypt, as [that culture] had all the secrets. They’re the ones that knew. Their main concept is to know thyself, know thy heart, know thy soul and know thy purpose.»

She says the belief system is based on the ancient Egyptian concept of balance, with 42 laws that are actually 42 ideals.

«It’s kind of like aTen Commandments, but all done in a positive concept,» she said. «‘I shalt not kill,’ [is rendered as] ‘I honor all lives as sacred.'»

Besides honoring the goddess, the staff of Isis Oasis also provides massage therapy along with tarot andastrologyreadings,according to its website.

But the San Francisco event blending non-existent, heathen deities with the Christian faith is leaving some outraged.

«You can’t make this stuff up!» exclaimedDan Skogen of Marion, Iowa, who describes himself as a Lutheran fed up with the «constant mockery of God’s word» by theEvangelical Lutheran Church in America, or ELCA, which boasts some 4.2 million members in 10,000 congregations.

«God tells us inExodus 20:3‘You shall have no other gods before me.’ Yet this ELCA church brings followers of other gods in to speak and teach at their conference!»

Skogen said the ELCA leadership «accepts and promotes the thought that salvation is secured even for people who do not have faith in Christ.»

«So bringing worshippers of Isis to this conference to teach is acceptable to them,» said. «Of course, this is a distinct departure from the orthodox teaching of the Christian church.»

Throughout the Bible, there are many warnings against worshiping false gods.

The Israelites were nearly exterminated by God when they made a golden calf to worship, but said it was a «festival to the LORD.»(Exodus 32:5, New Living Translation)

And they were later warned: «But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are drawn away to serve and worship other gods, then I warn you now that you will certainly be destroyed.»(Deuteronomy 30:17-18, NLT)

Skogen said, «Over the years, the ELCA has been drifting farther and farther away from the truth and authority of Scripture. When a church does not trust, adhere to and believe what the Bible clearly states, heresies emerge, resulting in false teachings and blatant disobedience.»

Defending the event is one of its organizers,Rev. Megan Rohrer, the first openly transgender Lutheran minister ordained in the United States.

«I think the world is much more interested in interfaith connection than exclusivity,» Rohrer told WND. «It’s really not that unusual. Christianity was founded in the time of the beginnings of lots of things.»

While acknowledging concern about mixingpaganismwith Christianity is a «hot-button issue,» the pastor said, «Christians that say that probably don’t know what paganism is.»

«Anything that’s not what anyone’s church teaches is against God’s ways,» she added.

TheMerriam-Webster Dictionary defines «pagan»as «heathen, especially: a follower of a polytheistic religion (as in ancient Rome).» Itdefines the word «heathen»as «an unconverted member of a people or nation that does not acknowledge the God of the Bible.»

This particular Lutheran church in San Francisco is far from what many might consider mainstream.

For instance, it heavily promotes a female identity for God, with a giant banner hanging from its purple exterior declaring «God/dess loves all her children.»

«We are a diverse community, standing firmly within theChristiantraditionin order to re-image the divine by claiming her feminine persona,» the church proclaims.

«Our Christian/Lutheran feminist prayers and liturgy reach back into the storehouse of tradition to bring forth names as Mother, Shaddai, Sophia, Womb, Midwife, Shekinah, She Who Is. They do so out of renewed insights into the nature of the Gospel empowered by the risen Christ-Sophia.»

The Ebenezer Lutheran Church in San Francisco calls itself «herchurch.»

Asked to explain the church’s theology, Rev. Rohrer said, «Being Christian and being feminist are not two opposite ends of the spectrum.»

She said her church is «creating caring economics and creating a world where every person’s identity is held up with its integrity, creatingequalplayingfieldsfor every human being.»

«The U.N. continues to say if we’re able to educate women globally, we will probably eliminate poverty,» she added.

Other events at the conference include a chanting workshop with another Isis priestess, Katie Kethcum, «inclusive» hymns, sacred walks, sacred drums, sacred dance andKundalini Yoga mantras, which the church says «are composed of basic phonetic sounds common to all languages and have been used to invoke the presence of the Divine for centuries.»

Also speaking at the conference isMary Streufert, director for Justice for Women at ELCA’s headquartersin Chicago. She refused comment when asked about her participation.

Interest in the Egyptian goddess is certainly not new in the U.S. In the mid-1970s, she became a flying superhero on the CBSSaturday-morning TV series «Isis.»

The program featured actress JoAnna Cameron playing a science teacher who, after unearthing an ancient amulet on anarchaeologicaldig, transforms herself into a superpower-endowed do-gooder by uttering the incantation, «Oh mighty Isis.»

Another catchphrase on the show was, «Oh zephyr winds that blow on high. Lift me now so I can fly.»

Vigne says today there are «many thousands» of followers of Isis worldwide.

«The important thing is that it’s growing enormously. There is this resurgence of interest,» she said.

«I think that people are getting annoyed with the normal churches, the established kind of organized religion. I call mine adisorganizedreligion, humorously. I say I havecatma, not dogma.»

As the presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and a member of the Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, I write to lift up the support of our national church body for comprehensive immigration reform and the DREAM Act.

We are a church that belongs to Christ, and we believe God calls each of us by name. Therefore, the ELCA has repeatedly affirmed the biblical witness and our shared experience of working with and on behalf of America’s newcomers through our ministry with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service.

The 2011 Churchwide Assembly of the ELCA voted overwhelmingly in support of immigration reform and the DREAM Act. The churchwide assembly is the ELCA’s highest legislative authority serving on behalf of 4.2 million baptized ELCA members.

The biblical call to hospitality also inspired Lutheran congregations across the country to discuss transforming communities into centers of hospitality through relationship building and advocacy. In addition, congregations are holding DREAM Act Sabbaths to lift up the experiences of undocumented youth and encourage broader public support for the legislation.

The need to overhaul the U.S. immigration system is becoming ever more urgent. In the absence of comprehensive immigration reform, states have felt compelled to write their own immigration laws, which are often shortsighted and misguided. The ELCA needs your leadership. We urge you to continue to speak to Congress and the American public to take action on comprehensive immigration reform and the DREAM Act and to explore other compassionate policy reforms that advance the common good.

As a national church body, the ELCA — our congregations, bishops, schools and millions of individual members — continues to preach, teach, advocate and work with and on behalf of America’s newcomers. This nation has achieved such greatness due to the resilience, labor and intellect of immigrants. We will roll up our sleeves and work tirelessly until this nation is once again a place of welcome and justice for newcomers.

Egypt’s Christians are angry that authorities have allowed repeated attacks on Christians AP

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have condemned the massacre of peaceful protesters in Egypt and Syria, and have passed a resolution this week calling for authorities in the nations to do more to protect vulnerable and targeted Christian communities.

MEPs voted by a show of hands to pass the resolution on the escalating situations in Egypt and Syria, and highlighted in particular the recent slaughter of Christians in Egypt that saw dozens massacred by government army personnel.

Reports indicate that tens of thousands of Coptic Christians have fled Egypt in the past six months. Most have left fearing for their lives as Islamic extremists attack Christian churches and residences with increasing regularity and ferocity.

Violence erupted in Cairo on October 9 when thousands of Coptic Christians gathered to protest against the burning of a Coptic church in Southern Aswan which took place on September 30. The burning was carried out allegedly by local hardline Muslims who claimed the church did not have the license for the construction of a dome.

The October 9 protests saw 27 Copts slaughtered and more than 300 wounded.

Now MEPs have finally come out to strongly condemn the killings, and have stresses the importance of an independent and transparent investigation into the bloody incident.

The MEP resolution says that authorities should ensure that Copts do not fall victim to violent attacks and can live in peace and freely express their beliefs throughout the country, according to IEWY News.

In particular, MEPs have called for the greater protection of churches in Egypt, and for there to be an end to their destruction and to the continuous aggression by Islamic extremists.

The kidnapping of Coptic girls has also alarmed the MEPs. Reports have revealed how young Christian girls in the country have been kidnapped from their families and physically threatened to force their conversion to Islam.

The European resolution also adds that Egyptian authorities must bring an end to discrimination against Coptic Christians.

It has been suggested that the European Parliament would urge the EU to consider taking further measures if serious human rights violations continue to occur in Egypt.

According to IEWY News, the MEPs also have called for an end to the emergency law imposed by the military interim government, and in particular suggest that the immediately-held military trials of civilians in the country could be violating basic rights such as the freedom of expression, association and assembly.

The European politicians also highlighted concerns towards Syria; the resolution points out that thousands of Iraqi Christians fled to Syria to escape persecution and violence following the fall of Saddam Hussein. However, despite that influx of Christians arriving in the country, the total Christian population in Syria has declined from 10 percent to just eight percent.

The MEPs suggest that a lack of protection for Christian communities has seen thousands flee the country to escape targeted persecution.

The brutal force used by Syrian authorities against protesters, pro-democracy activists, human rights defenders, journalists, and medical personnel, reveals that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his regime must relinquish power immediately, the MEPs have said.

Although intended to be peaceful, violence broke out when military personnel commenced a crackdown on the protest.

Mourners have blamed the Egyptian army for the high death toll, arguing that the Christian march was absolutely peaceful until the military started a crackdown. The ensuing clashes reportedly saw Islamic extremists join the attacks against the Christians, and even saw a military vehicle driven into crowds of protesters.

Some rights activists reported military personnel firing directly into the crowds of Christians.

«They were armed with swords, sticks and stones – some of them had rifles, it seems,» Father Rafic Greiche, official spokesman for the Catholic Church of Egypt, previously said in a statement.

«They did not have to use force. It was a peaceful demonstration,» he added.

Question marks have also surrounded media in the region, as one state-controlled TV station admitted to making up news as the Coptic Christian protest was taking place. The false report stated that Christians had attacked and killed military personnel trying to keep order; however, those reports were later proven to be false and entirely fabricated. The falsified reports are now thought to have directly attributed to the violent outbreaks and brutal crackdown by military officials and Muslim hardliners against protesting Christians.

Undocumented immigrants in California will soon be able to receive state-financed aid to attend college as Gov. Jerry Brown Saturday signed into law the second half of a legislative package known as the California Dream Act.

“Taking action to expand educational opportunity to all qualified students, Governor Edmund G. [Jerry] Brown Jr. today signed the California Dream Act,” the governor’s office announced in a statement Saturday.

“Going to college is a dream that promises intellectual excitement and creative thinking,” Brown said. “The Dream Act benefits us all by giving top students a chance to improve their lives and the lives of all of us.”

Under the first half of the package signed earlier this year and known as AB 130, undocumented students pay resident tuition rates if they have graduated from a California high school and affirmed that they are in the process of applying to legalize their immigration status. Effective January 1, 2013, AB 131, the second half of the package, will make this limited pool of students eligible to apply for Cal Grants and other state aid, Brown’s office said.

Both bills were authored by Assembly member Gil Cedillo, a Democrat from Los Angeles.

“After having invested 12 years in the high schooleducation of these young men and women, who are here through no fault of their own, it’s the smartest thing for us to do to permit these students to get scholarships and be treated like every other student,” Los Angeles Times quoted Cedillo as saying. “We need an educated workforce. This is good for California’s economy and California’s future.”

It is estimated that 2,500 students will qualify for Cal Grants at a cost of $14.5 million – about 1 percent of all Cal Grant funds at $1.4 billion, according to Brown’s office.

The Democratic-controlled Senate approved the bill on Aug. 31.

Republican lawmakers have opposed the measure, saying that benefits are being extended to illegal immigrants at a time when the state is cutting spending on the country’s legal citizens.

Brown’s predecessor, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, vetoed similar legislation thrice during his time in office.

Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, a Republican from Santa Clarita, estimates that there are about 40,000 illegal immigrants who might apply for financial aid from the limited funds that are not being increased by the legislation. “Therefore, for every dollar awarded to an undocumented student from that pot of money, a dollar would have to be taken away from a citizen or a legal immigrant,” Smyth was quoted as saying. “I believe that is wrong.”

Opponents warn that such measures should be passed only after reforming the country’s immigration rules, as they could otherwise be seen as endorsement of illegal immigration. But supporters are calling for passage of a federal Dream Act to give college graduates and those who have served in the military a chance to get citizenship.
